tire tracks

Our Story

D&S Tires Inc. began in January of 1971 when Dick and Sandy Critel rented the old skating rink located at 661 South Lincoln Street in West Point. The business began as a retail tire store, offering passenger, and truck tires. Along with sales of tires, we offered tire services such as front end alignments, tire changes, and a farm service truck for services outside the building. In 1972 we began to retread truck tires with Bandag continuing through 1984.

Radial Tire

In 1978, Dick and Sandy discontinued the retail side of the business and began retreading truck tires for agricultural use. Retreading tires is great for the environment, it involves recycling tire casing and making them reusable on different agricultural equipment. Pivot tires have become a large portion of the business. Pivot tires are made from repurposed truck casings that are shipped to the West Point plant from all over the country. These tires are then inspected, buffed, and recapped in a hot cap mold to form a tire.

In 1984, we opened our welding shop at 217 West Sherman Street where we can adapt or rebuild wheels to fit almost any application for agricultural or truck use.

In 2000, we began to rebuild rubber tracks for agricultural and construction equipment. Later, due to demand, we began replacing guide blocks. We also rebuild drive wheels, idlers, and mid roller wheels on all makes and models of agricultural and construction equipment. Customers for these services come from all over the United States and Canada.

In 2005, the mounting shop location was purchased at 535 North Lincoln, which is the former Scharfen Cafe location, in West Point. All Mounting of the retread tires on customer wheels is completed at this location.

In 2006, in order to meet the demand for tracks a second location was opened in Richmond, IN.

In 2011, with more demand out west, we added a third location in Parma, ID.
